Twisting, turning, burning fires Smoke is drifting, drifting higher Into clouds and skies of blue Tainting sunsets, dirty hues Background's crashing, erupting flames Destroying shadows without a name Ahead lies skies of promising light Vastness divine and earned with a fight And fight she did, the determined dove Soaring through ashes in the skies above She found her boy and let him go Dropped from the heavens because it's all that she knows He fought salvation And denied her bliss Towards the brighter skies Still she couldn't resist She plunged into air Diving through dampness and cold Risking storms fast approaching Giving up her control She sped through the sky Towards the boy as he fell Descending through ashes And straight into hell The guilt ridden dove Felt a pang in her chest A hollowed out shell An empty heart's nest She wrapped her hard wings Around the boy's brittle frame A real life encasing Secure from the shame There was lightning in her veins Her feathers twitching at the sight And then the boy grabbed on harder Holding the falling dove so so tight As they plumeted through space And down towards the ground The boy turned her skyward All his weight wrapped around Bracing for the moment When their wings would kiss the ground The frightened dove was in awe When she opened her eyes and looked around For the wind was in her face Her feathers blowing in the wind As the boy flew them skyward Her mind left in a spin And when she noticed in that moment The boy had saved her life A smile touched her lips And she held on as they flew through the night
