The lonesome dove
Soaring through ashes
Dark skies left behind her
Still torn from the scratches
Wounded but healing
Storms passed and gone away
Dark skies left behind her
Memories of lovers now astray
Through her black eyes
She spots a broken boy
Leaving skies up above her
No suspicion of ploy
As she took landing
He let out a moan
Thundering skies all around her
Soulless eyes set to stone
She put his head in her lap
Caressed his face with her wings
Looking up at darkening skies
Oh the tears they did sting
She knew this boy’s face
For once it had been her own
Back in the darkest of dark skies
When heartbreak shook her to the bone
She stretched her healing wings
And lifted the boy up to the sky
Brighter skies lay miles before her
She’d teach this boy just how to fly
And as they made it to the clouds
The fragile boy began to fight
Miles of sky lay just below them
When he squeezed her wings too tight
She tried to hold on harder
Talons coiling in his skin
Hopeful skies please don’t betray her
This poor boy with no faith within
His last swell of puny strength
He used to refuse assured salvation
Despising bright skies that lay before him
Dwelling in memory’s false sensations
The dove knew in that moment
All she had to know
Soaring towards bright skies that lay before her
She kissed his head, caressed his face, and she braced to let him go.
